Check out http://www.communitychickens.com/ to discuss issues with other poultry enthusiasts.

I get alot of questions about poultry health and I strive to update myself regularly with as much knowledge about all the animals, however there still are times when I just do not know an answer.

If you would like to post a question, email me at Eastmarionfeeds@aol.com or on Facebook.com and I will start a posting here and see if our neighbors can help with the issue.

Country Feeds® Chick Starter

Features

  • Balanced energy, protein and amino acid levels to help promote early rapid growth.
  • Fortified with vitamins and minerals to help maintain flock growth and healthy development.

Before You Feed

  • Feed by weight—not by volume.
  • Weigh the feed in the container that you will be using and subtract the weight of the container.

Feeding Instructions

  • Feed as the sole ration.
  • Feed according to the feeding chart on the package.
  •    Consult your local veterinarian with any concerns about health care.

  • The first day the birds arrive, you may wish to scatter some feed on a newspaper so they can find it more easily.
  • Allow 1 gallon waterer fount for each 25 birds.
  • Allow 1 inch of feeder space per bird for the first 2 weeks. From 3 to 6 weeks, increase feeder space to 2 inches per bird and 3 inches per bird after 6 weeks.
  • Clean and place feeders and waterers before the birds are put under the brooder. Initially place feeder and waterer directly on the floor. A good rule of thumb is to have the feeder and waterer height even with the back of the birds to reduce feed waste and avoid contamination with droppings.
  • Keep feeders and waterers filled the first week. Then reduce the amount in the feeder until about half full.
  • Keep waterers and feeders clean. Disinfect waterers weekly.
  • Increase the feeder size and the number of feeders and waterers as birds grow.
